One Computer Problem Solved

Make a list of students names. Have a clothespin marked with an arrow on the pinching end. Pinch the clothespin at the first student's name on the list. After this student is finished doing his/her work at the computer, he/she will move the clothespin to the next student's name on the list and inform that student to take his/her turn. This works great with only one or two computers. Since I block with two fourth grade classes and I have two computers, I use one list over each of the computers.

Ask Three, Then Me

When utilizing the computer lab, students often like to be reaffirmed in what they are doing. To avoid losing work time, students are instructed to "ask three, then me" when they have a question. To avoid having students sitting idle with one arm raised to get my attention, they simply place a small red cup on the top of their monitor to alert me that they need my assistance.

Storyboard

Before students touch the computer when creating PowerPoint presentation, they are given a storyboard to plan (graphically) their slides. This causes them to give some thought to the content of the slides before they work on the sounds and transitions.
