ASCD Young Educator Award.
Comment: In recognition of "an emerging educational leader [40 years of age or under who will share] his or her exemplary practices with the education community. Every year, ASCD will select four OYEA finalists from two rounds of nominations: Spring nominations close April 15, with up to two finalists announced in May.
Fall nominations close on October 15, with up to two finalists announced in November. Winner receives $10,000.

Teaching Tolerance Grant Program
Comment: The Teaching Tolerance project of the Southern Poverty Law Center offers grants of up to $2,000 to K-12 classroom teachers for implementing tolerance and youth activism projects in their schools and communities. Proposals from other educators such as community organizations and churches will be considered on the basis of direct student impact.

Toyota Tapestry Grant Awards. Large and mini-grants.
Comment: "The 2005 Toyota TAPESTRY program will award 50 grants of up to $10,000 each and a minimum of 20 "mini-grants" of $2,500 each to K-12 science teachers. Interested teachers should propose innovative science projects that can be implemented in their school or school district over a one-year period. Toyota TAPESTRY projects demonstrate creativity, involve risk-taking, possess a visionary quality, and model a novel way of presenting science. If you have a great way to make science come alive, apply for a Toyota TAPESTRY grant."
