In this new series by A.J. Butcher, six teens, from varying backgrounds, are chosen to attend Deveraux Academy. Ostensibly a school for gifted students, Deveraux is actually a training academy for secret agents—agents whose job it will be to stop megalomaniacs and terrorists which threaten the world.
The six students (three males and three females) form "Bond Team." They train together in hopes of passing a mock mission. If they don't pass, they will have their memories erased and be returned to the life they left. The key to passing: they must work as a team.
Unfortunately, they aren't able to unite and work as one.
The head of the Academy, Jonathan Deveraux, takes a huge risk. He sends Bond Team on a real mission to find and stop Dr. Averill Frankenstein, a geneticist, who has begun splicing animal genes and human genes to create hybrid beings.
With only each other to depend upon, Bond Team is set down in the middle of "Eastern Wildscape," a rugged area in which sightings of strange animals have occurred. It doesn't take long until the team finds itself in the middle of a nightmare scenario. Will they be able to survive?
Spy High is exciting and well-plotted. The characters are spirited and likeable. The book will definitely appeal to teens who enjoy fast-paced action adventures. Consider this title for your reluctant readers.
